Vivi tells you what to listen to – Pt 6

To me this list seems to go everywhere but I guess we will see once I have prefaced them all for you. Week seemed crazy in my head and blurry for some reason but here are some great songs that will take you into your weekend.

1. Meiko – I’m In Love

This song is beautiful in its simplicity. Her voice is just like candy you wanna eat because it has that right amount of sweetness to make you happy but not sick. I love it. And it is about love so I like it even more.  (I love love, for reals, seriously, ask anyone)

2. Rye Rye (ft Akon)- Crazy Bitch

I know you are thinking first is this a cover of the Buckcherry song? (it is not) Then asking yourself- what another Rye Rye song? Yes. She released an album that has the aforementioned Shake Twist Drop. This whole album is great. Booty shaking in a slightly different way than the next song but equally as summerlicious. This and the Adam Lambert should your beach/poolside music for the summer. This song is so great and awesome and so much better than the Buckcherry one.

3. Adam Lambert ft Nile Rogers & Sam Sparro – Shady

Adam Lambert’s new album (Trespassing) is really really good. All of the songs makes his awesome voice shine so well. It is great dance pop that makes you want to get up out of your chair and spin around with your favorite glow stick. I love this song in particular. It has that great beat that makes you want to fuck and then dance and then fuck some more. So get going now.

4. John Mayer- Speak For Me

Dear god I don’t know why I like John Mayer so much. His music is soulless pop. He has talent and wastes it on songs that he doesn’t seem to care about. But it is like crack to me. So if you are John Mayer inclined this song is great and off of his new album, Born and Raised. It is a great album if you are John Mayer inclined.

5. Lumineers- Ho Hey

This song reminds me a lot of Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. However it has its own style to it. It is one of those songs that you want to belt out singing in your car, in the grocery store, wherever. It is romantic too.  Also their whole album is great.

6. Vitamin C- Graduation Song

It is graduation time and most will want to choose a song to symbolize the time they had in school. I suspect most will choose that horrible Green Day song (Good Riddance?) or some song from 30 years ago (Dust in the Wind, Yesterday).  If you are choosing a contemporary song, then good on you and carry on. If you feel the need to reach for the low hanging guitar of Green Day I urge you to put it back. Pick up this song again. It is the best graduation song out there (it is even in the name!). Plus you will sing it with your friends and go we are friends forever! Which means in 5 years it will be liking random facebook posts and remembering their birthday because Facebook told you.  Anyways this song is awesome and rips off Pachelbel.

7. The Mynabirds- Generals

So this song rocks hard core. It rocks applesauce. And you need to put this on while you read this. I love the Mynabirds. Their other album is aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamazing and you all need to get it. And this album is equally as great. It is a bit different than the first album but equally great. This song is really the best example of the whole album and is a song to listen to while doing anything. Walk your dog to this or your imaginary pet panda.

8. Punch brothers – Rye Whiskey

I discovered them from the Hunger Games Soundtrack. You all have that now right?  It is $4 on amazon mp3.  This song is fun. It is a bit old twangy country but good. Just pretend you are listening to the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack. A lost song. And your country weirdness will disappear and you will love it like I do.

9. Owen Pallet – Lewis takes Action

Had a conversation today about how I am missing out on music because I have an aversion to bands because of their names. I generally won’t listen to any band that has an animal in their name and I didn’t listen to Beach House until today.  This spawned into the direction of indie music today. Which is usually whiny electronic crap that all sounds the same.  So in this vein if you are going to latch on to this listen to this song. Which is the best song of this vein. A really good song that you need to hear.   Also I do like indie pop but when it is more pop and less whining.

10.Stylistics – You Make Me Feel Brand New

I love the Stylistics with a vengenence. Ever song of theirs that I know I love and know most of the words. They are so so good to me and I thank my dad for introducing me to them. This song I love because it is a perfect love song and since I am so full of love today (and lately) I am making you listen to this.

This is also a long distance dedication song. ❤

Bonus– Kinks – Victoria

The Kinks are an awesome band and this is their best song (yes I am biased). The mythology in my family is that I was named after this song. Which I find wicked cool and adapt this theory because of how cool it is to be named after an awesome song. I thank the heavens it wasn’t Lola too.  This song is also appropriate because in Canada this Monday it is Victoria Day. The day to honor me or your past queens or drinking beer. Whatever works best for you.
