Vivi tells you what to listen to – Pt 9

I am going to tell you how to use most of these songs during your weekend. And if I don’t,still listen they are awesome.  Swearz.

1. Brandi Carlilie – That Wasn’t Me

Love this song. It is so simple and vocal driven. Something you listen to on a Sunday morning while drinking coffee in your pajamas and leaning back in a comfy chair. Maybe you might pull out the paper to read but you get lost in though and the lazy Sunday.

2. The National – The Rains of Castamere

This was the end song for the latest episode of Game of Thrones. That episode was epic and probably one of the best hours of television ever. This song capped that episode so perfectly. However if you haven’t seen Game of Thrones this song is beautiful. The lead singer’s voice is so haunting and thick it is amazing. It compels you to sit down and listen. You can imagine a fire burning (hopefully not catching your curtians on fire) as he sings this song to you. Scratch that you don’t want burned curtains. Kidnap the lead singer and go camping with a fire, the log benches and marshmallows and then he can sing to you.

3. Rihanna – Birthday Cake ; Big Sean – Dance (A$$) ft Nicki MinajTyga- Rack City

These songs were talked about on the latest episode of Uncast with Butch (brotherdarkness.tumblr.com). I like to put them together as a trilogy if you will. Found out from Butch that Cake means ass. So Birthday Cake is the subtle version of Dance (A$$). Rack City just kind of flows into that attitude.  They are fun songs that get you pumped up and dancing. They maaaaaaaaaay be offensive if you have a delicate constitution.  You also can’t get them out of your head and just want to sing them all. Cake Cake Cake Cake!!!

4. Soulsavers – Tonight

This is is a last minute add (thanks Andrea) to this list. It is very sway-ish (not the VJ but the action).  I think it is a great early Friday afternoon song. It makes you relax and take a deep breath before you start up with the oontz oontz of the weekend. We are all huge ravers right? That still happens right? of course it does I am a huge raver. I have my -insert stereotypical rave items- all ready to go.  Oh the voice will be familiar if you listen to music, it is Dave Gahan from Depeche Mode.  You really hear how beautiful his voice is in this song. Listen. Order!

5. Zero 7 – Swing

I created a Pandora station off of Icona Pop (see other Vivi tells you what to listen to) and it was lots of trip-hop groups on there. And they came up a couple of times. I checked them out further and found this song. Which is more poppy and fun than their other songs (which are good but not songs that will make you smile per se).  I think it is a great song for a Saturday morning while you are making breakfast. Ooh yes this is great pancake making music. And don’t be an ass , if you aren’t making pancakes still listen.

6.  Lennon and Maisy Stella – Call Your Girlfriend (Robyn Cover)

This is the latest internet thing. And they are so adorable and this version is soooooo adorable. You need to listen to this. It is sweet and precious and pretty. And I can’t stop listening to it. The original version is also great and should be listened to. It is more dance beat. So listen to this version in the morning and the original when you are getting ready to go out for the evening. K?

7. Nicki Minaj – Pound the Alarm

I heard this the other day when I was making dinner. It popped up on the ipod and I started dancing like a wild banshee. I didn’t care if I made a fool of myself the music in this song overtook me. So lets say on Saturday you don’t want to go out or can’t. Put on this song (on repeat even) and you will be dancing all night. Make your own dance floor. This song demands it.

8. Charlotte Gainsbourg (ft. Beck) – Heaven Can Wait

This is top down driving around music. You can bop your head back and forth to this song with your bestest friends.  Drink cool fruity beverages pool side with this song too. Both options will work. It is poppy and great.  Listening to it now and eeking inside with how great it is.

9. Men at Work – Overkill

This is in my pantheon of all time great songs. This original and the stripped down Colin Hay only version are both excellent. It is just a great song.  This is a good picnic song. You are laying out on a blanket in the sun and relaxing and this song comes on. Imagine yourself lying on your back watching the clouds with this song in your ears. Perfection.  And if you don’t know this song, you need to be listening now.

10. Scrubs – Guy Love

This song is a preview of this weeks episode of Junk’s Trunk. It is hilarious and awesome. Also a great catchy fun song to sing. So this one will be for when you are chilling out and not sure what to do. Find this episode on Netflix (it is the musical one) and watch it.  All of the songs in the episode are great and this one is  so fun.

The next two posts will be a bit different. Next weeks will be a thematic post and the one after that will have a guest writer. Eeek!!!
